When First Interstate Bank’s Regional President, Bryan Guest, heard about the University of Northern Colorado Cancer Rehabilitation Institute (UNCCRI), it struck close to home. One of his family members was in the middle of cancer treatment and was struggling to climb a flight of stairs. That is when Bryan saw the need to help support “Greeley’s Best Kept Secret” by donating to Frank Gale Faith Not Fear. A nonprofit organization, Frank Gale Faith Not Fear (FGFNF) was created to fund UNCCRI so cancer patients can regain their quality of life. The University of Northern Colorado provides the facility, but the entire operating budget MUST be raised yearly. As of today, there is a waitlist of 126 cancer patients waiting to receive treatment at UNCCRI.
Treatment-related side effects experienced by cancer patients can be severe. They often experience debilitating fatigue, declines in muscle mass and strength, along with a reduction in quality of life. If they are fortunate, they have heard of UNCCRI and can benefit from what it has to offer. Exercise not only benefits healthy individuals, but it also is an essential component in the recovery from cancer and an important factor in preventing cancer reoccurrence. Since 1996, UNCCRI has been providing individualized, prescribed, supervised exercised-based programs for cancer patients at all stages of treatment.
First Interstate’s donation of $8,000 to FGFNF this year will reduce the waitlist of cancer patients so they can begin the process of returning to a healthy life. Let me say that again – over 100 cancer patients are waiting to regain their quality of life! Frank Gale’s motto in life was Faith Not Fear, symbolizing courage and hope, principles guiding the mission at UNCCRI. FGFNF and UNCCRI are extremely grateful for this donation.
